Upper Keys animal charity donates children’s books to MCSO

Keys News covered a community moment we were glad to be part of: Pawsitive Beginnings donating copies of the “Reef the Fox” children’s book to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office to share with local kids. The book turns the real rescue of one of our foxes into a gentle, age-appropriate story about kindness, resilience, and caring for animals.

Reef was born on a fur farm and came to the sanctuary as a young kit after his mother and siblings rejected him. He is missing toes on a front paw and part of his tail from those early injuries, and today he is a thriving ambassador for the foxes who share his story. Putting his book into the hands of children across the Upper Keys is one of the ways we use the foxes to start conversations about compassion and the realities of the fur and exotic-pet trades.

Outreach like this sits alongside the lifelong care we provide to foxes who cannot be released to the wild. We are grateful to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office for helping us reach local families, and to Keys News for sharing the story.
